Hotel dominates the town square, an enormous sandstone edifice with carved gargoyle faces on the outside and dozens of rooms inside. It was built by William P. Orr and Samuel K. Statler in 1890-91 and first operated as the Plaza. The hotel has a rich history of providing shelter to presidents and other famous people including Theodore Roosevelt, William Howard Taft, Warren G. Harding, John Philip Sousa, and Harry Houdini. Nowaday it houses the Piqua Public Library, a chocolate and coffee shop, a fine dining restaraunt and a banquet facility.
